HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC (WTOC) - Hilton Head Island Mayor David Bennett and some town council members are arguing against a proposed fishing ban.
The ban would limit fishing on island beaches during tourist season from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Memorial Day through Labor Day.
The proposal comes from residents who are concerned surf fishing could attract sharks closer to shore.
But the mayor and local fisherman say there is no evidence linking the two together.
A decision on the proposal will be made later this month.
