SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - In our ongoing effort to bring you the good news from our community, here are a few of the stories from this week for you to consider.
We showed you how dozens of local third, fourth and fifth graders, through a program led by the 100 Black Men of Savannah, are starting college savings accounts now. The young students got a lesson in generosity from the Rotary Club of Savannah, which agreed to match what each student saved up to $100.
More good news came from the Lowcountry where some Ridgeland Elementary School students got the red carpet treatment. They produced a music video aimed at inspiring positive behavior in the classrooms. The music video shows students how they can use positive attitudes, wise choices and self-control in their everyday lives. Teachers say this video is already having an impact.
And finally, congratulations go out to Michael Holmes, a corporal with the Chatham County Sheriff's Reserve Unit, who received the Sheriff Office's Valor Award this week.Back in August Holmes, while on a lunch break from his civilian job, responded to a call for a deputy needing help capturing suspects in the woods off I-516. Holmes played a key role in capturing one of suspects.
That's just a bit of the Good News you'll see only on WTOC every day.
