Pooler Mayor: City Hall construction ahead of schedule

POOLER, GA (WTOC) -

Construction of the new City Hall in Pooler is well underway, and Thursday WTOC got a big update on the progress.

Pooler is getting ready to welcome a new City Hall with a contract value at more than $18 million.

"The building right now is in the process of being dried in. The roofers have started, sub-contractors are inside," said Elkins Construction Project Superintendent Noah Andersen-Davis.

It's a big building, one that definitely stands out.

"It definitely changes the look of Pooler, especially with the older part of Pooler and hopefully for the better," said Andersen-Davis.

Pooler Mayor Mike Lamb says he's very pleased with the progress so far.

"They're saying we're ahead of schedule so we're very happy with that," he said.

WTOC is told the new building will house the police department on the first floor, city offices on the second floor and council chambers on the third floor.

"The next couple steps of the project we'll see the exterior walls being closed up, cast on and masonry will be starting within the next couple of months," said Andersen-Davis.

"We hope not only that it's going to help us make our city even better but it's also to help us in the revitalization of the historic area because we're growing over there," said Mayor Lamb.

The construction team is hoping to have it all ready for employees to move this fall.  Once that happens, crews will begin taking down the current City Hall building.

Relaxing outside this Father's Day afternoon? Showers and thunderstorms will continue drifting across the Coastal Empire and Low Country into the early evening hours. Since these storms aren't moving fast, you can expect water to collect on roadways if you're caught under a downpour. The good news is that we will be much drier by sunset, meaning your dinner grilling plans are still a go!
