STEM Academy at Bartlett student wins Chatham Co. spelling bee

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

“Bee” season continued Tuesday night, this time in Chatham County.

Students filled the Student Union Ballroom at Savannah State University Tuesday night.

Catherine Nguyen took home first place with wining words, staccato and accommodate.

"She studied a really long time and I helped her, the school and so did her teacher help her to study,” said Stephanie Pham, mother.

"It's amazing. We're so honored to have that. I’m very proud because every year, the student has been my Latin student that's won. So I feel very privileged to teach these students,” said Latin teacher Jonathan Coker.

It's the third year for a winner to come from the STEM Academy at Bartlett, and it's actually Catherine's second time taking home the award.

Congratulations to her and to all of the participants!
