The 17-year-old female that was shot Wednesday on Wild Horse Road in Beaufort County was pronounced dead Thursday around 4:45 p.m. at Memorial Health in Savannah.

Beaufort County Coroner Ed Allen advised the cause of Rae Prock’s death was result of a single gunshot wound, but the manner of her death has not yet been determined.

Prock was at her boyfriend’s home on Wild Horse Lane in Hilton Head when she was shot in the head around 3:30 Wednesday morning. Her friends from Oregon say she moved to the Lowcountry last month to be closer to family.

Deputies recovered the handgun they think was used in the shooting, but they did not say who shot her. Investigators searched and collected evidence at the boyfriend’s house. He was questioned but has not been charged with any crime.

Prock’s friends in Oregon describe her as a loving, outgoing person.

“She could find the light in any situation. She still was smiling and making everyone happy every day,” said Sierra Sterrett, victim’s friend.

“We had a really good connection. We talked about life, and our problems together and she was just always there for me,” said Emeree Raymond, victim’s friend.
