SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

The Savannah Black Heritage Festival continuing to celebrate its 27th year at the Johnny Mercer Theatre.

Friday's event featured a performance by the renowned Lula Washington Dance Theatre. Washington's works have been commissioned by major foundations and dance presenting institutions.

The Festival is presented by the City's Department of Cultural Affairs and Savannah State University. All events and activities are free and open to the public.

"What we try and do at each festival is to make sure that we have a professional African-American dance troop to come and share that particular genre with the community and just expose us to African-American culture through dance,” said Savannah Black Heritage Festival Coordinator Shirley James.

Even more musical celebrations and concerts will be taking place throughout the month.
