Exchange Club honors SCMPD employees

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

The Exchange Club of Savannah held its annual awards luncheon for members of the Savannah-Chatham Metro Police Department.

Plaques were presented to Officer of the Year, Supervisor of the Year, Detective of the Year and Civilian of the Year. The awards were sponsored by Coastal Chevrolet.

"They're true heroes. And this is just a small token of our appreciation for all the time and effort they give away from their families, putting their lives on the line to protect us and our community. We're very proud to do it,” said Coastal Chevrolet Executive Manager Neal Wilson.

This year’s winners are:

  • Officer of the Year: Antwan Diggs. Diggs joined SCMPD in 2013 and previously served in the Army for 10 years.
  • Detective of the Year: Robert Santoro. Detective Santoro joined the department six years ago and recently solved a cold case involving a woman who was killed, arresting three men who are now awaiting trial on murder charges.
  • Supervisor of the Year: Sgt. John Cain. He received international fame in November after helping a cancer survivor finish the Rock ‘N Roll Marathon. A picture of Cain helping the injured runner went viral on social media.
  • Civilian of the Year: Diane Ernst. Ernst has been on the department for over 21 years. She currently is the administrative assistant for the Southside Precinct.
