HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC (February 11, 2016) Eight past champions have committed to the 48th annual RBC Heritage Presented by Boeing. Five-time champion and Ryder Cup Captain Davis Love III, plus two two-time champions Stewart Cink and Boo Weekley, headline the list of impressive past champs. They are joined by Glen Day, Justin Leonard and Carl Pettersson. Two Team RBC Ambassadors, Graeme McDowell and Brandt Snedeker, are also slated to compete over the famed Harbour Town Golf Links.
South Carolina’s only PGA TOUR event is taking place April 11-17, 2016, on Hilton Head Island.
One year ago, Love was named the 2016 Ryder Cup Captain. He followed up that announcement by winning the Wyndham Championship in August. It was his first win on the PGA TOUR since 2008. The University of North Carolina graduate has earned 21 PGA TOUR victories, including five wins at Harbour Town Golf Links. He was only 23 when he won his first in 1987, making him the youngest champion. The Sea Island resident competed at Harbour Town for 26 consecutive years before injuries in 2012 forced him to sit out three of the past four years.
McDowell earned his second win on the PGA TOUR at the 2013 RBC Heritage. The Team RBC Ambassador defeated Webb Simpson at Harbour Town in a sudden-death playoff. Earlier this year, he carded his third win, also in a sudden-death playoff, at the OHL Classic at Mayakoba. He also has eight wins on the European TOUR.
Team RBC Ambassador Snedeker earned his eighth win on the PGA TOUR earlier this year at the Farmers Insurance Open. After winning the 2011 Heritage, Snedeker won twice in 2012, first at the Farmers Insurance Open and then at THE TOUR Championship. Those wins helped him earn the 2012 FedExCup title.
Pettersson’s 2012 victory at the RBC Heritage was his fifth on the PGA TOUR. The win tied him with Jesper Parnevik for most wins on the PGA TOUR by a Swedish player. Carl moved to Greensboro, NC with his family in high school and later attended NC State.
Weekley enjoyed his first and second PGA TOUR wins during back-to-back appearances at Harbour Town Golf Links. He captured his third victory at the 2013 Crown Plaza Invitational at Colonial.
Cink is a former British Open Champion who captured the Heritage in 2000 and again in 2004. The Georgia Tech alum has earned six wins on the PGA TOUR.
Leonard has carded a dozen wins on the PGA TOUR including his 2002 victory at Harbour Town.
Day’s career on the PGA TOUR began in 1994. He defeated Payne Stewart and Jeff Sluman in a play off to win at Harbour Town in 1999.
