Spencer Elementary students collect water for Flint, MI

CHATHAM CO., GA (WTOC) -

Students at Spencer Elementary School doing their part to help those affected by the water crisis in Flint, Michigan.

The students have been collecting bottled water as well as one gallon jugs of water for the last 10 days. They are partnering with Savannah State University, who will make sure to the water donation gets to Flint.

At last count, the students collected more than 161 gallons of water to donate.

"It is a really great feeling to not only give the kids a sense of pride to know that they are doing something to help someone out. But also the let us know that although we are miles and miles away from Flint, Michigan, we still feel their pain and want to be a part of it with them,” said Spencer Elementary Gifted Specialist Tony Foy.

The homeroom that collected the most water will win a pizza party.
