13-year-old facing charges after shooting pizza delivery guy

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

A 13-year-old girl is behind bars for allegedly robbing and shooting a pizza delivery guy over the weekend.

She's being charged as an adult for aggravated assault and armed robbery.

The victim tells WTOC he's recovering after being shot on East Duffy Street, but he still can’t feel his fingers. He did say he felt more pain emotionally than he did physically.

"I already had the key in the ignition and I was putting the cash away, and that's when I noticed there was some young kid pointing a gun at me,” he said.

Twenty-year-old Jeffrey Willard has only been delivering pizzas for a few weeks.

"They told me to give them the cash in my left hand and I handed it to them, and it was about $11.”

At that point, he says he put his hands in the air and got out of the car, but he couldn't make out if the person was a male or female.

We know now 13-year-old Damiria Phillips is charged with aggravated assault and armed robbery for this incident. She allegedly shot Willard in his left arm.

Willard says it’s shocking and surprising that the shooter and the group she was with is so young.

"I can tell when they did it they felt really powerful and proud of themselves in that moment, and it’s scary to think that something like that can make someone so young feel powerful, so it makes me wonder you know, what's going on in their life,” the victim said.

We reached out to Domino’s, who says they can’t speak on a specific incident, but they do take driver safety very seriously. They encourage them to be aware of their surroundings and not to keep more than $20 on them while delivering.

Willard says that as a new driver, his store told him to keep only $10 on him as a safety precaution.

Doctors say Willard’s road to recovery will last a couple of weeks, and there is no word yet on when he will be able to return to work.

If you remember, the first time we brought you this story, the suspect was described as a male, but the victim says it was hard for him to tell at first. During the investigation, they found out it was the 13-year-old girl who allegedly did the shooting.
