TYBEE ISLAND, GA (WTOC) -

Things got messy for a good cause at the Tybee Island Maritime Academy on Tuesday.

Students put 19 pies in the face of Principal Patrick Rossiter and 73 pies in the face of Physical Education teacher Nancy Neff. She also had her head shaved. It was all part of the school's Jump Rope for Heart celebration.

The school with only 250 students raised more than $21,000 for the American Heart Association. This school is the only school so far this year to raise $21,000 in Chatham County.

"It just goes to show the sense of community that exists out here. We are Tybee Island's little school," said Principal Rossiter. "As someone whispered in my ear a little while ago, this is a cool little school with a lot of heart."

"I really feel like the kids have learned it's not about them. It's about helping others and caring for others," said Neff.

Jump Rope for Heart is a national education and fundraising program that teaches students how to take care of their hearts while experiencing the joy of giving back.
