CHATHAM CO., GA (WTOC) -

With the recent mass shooting in Kansas and countless others around the globe, the Chatham County Sheriff's Office is unveiling "The Citizens Guide to an Active Shooter."

Anyone and everyone - that includes businesses, churches, schools and civic organizations - can now sign up for a presentation. A deputy will help them better prepare and learn what and what not to do should this ever happen here.

"When the police go by, what they want to do is you want to show your hands and point to where the active shooter might be. If you can get out of the area, you want to try to get out of the area. If you can't get out of the area, then you want to hide... and then as a last resort, you want to fight if you can't run or hide,” said Chatham County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Gary Murphy.

The presentation is about an hour long.

To schedule this Power Point presentation please contact Pete Nichols at 652.7606, pbnichols@chathamcounty.org or Sgt. Gary Murphy at 660.7605, gdmurphy@chathamcounty.org.
