Consider This!: Good News-3/3/16

Did you hear the Good News this week?

The library at Shuman Elementary is bursting at the seams this week thanks to a donation of 500 books by the Pi Beta Phi Alumni Club of Savannah.

The school is one of the 100 schools nationally to benefit from a national grant to promote reading, which is the primary cause for the 53-member club, representing colleges and universities across the country.

The books are not just for the library however. Each third, fourth and fifth grader got one of their very own to take home.

Another of this week's good news stories involves Savannah Arts Academy senior Alexis Stevens.

Alexis started a jeans drive for Union Mission, asking fellow students at the school bring in jeans they had outgrown. By the middle of last week, she had collected about 700 pairs of jeans, pants and shorts.

When she made her delivery on Monday, she dropped off 1,326 pairs that Union Mission will distribute to their clients as needed.

And finally this week, some good news made by our own Dal Cannady who, for the fifth year in a row, completed his Red Cross Walk for Heroes.

Over the course of seven days and nearly 100 miles, Dal walked through several Southeast Georgia counties to raise both awareness and money. The money raised goes to help the region's Red Cross volunteers who assist local victims of fires, flooding, tornados and other disasters.

Dal is hoping to raise more than $16,000 this year. You can learn more about this walk and how you can help by going here or to Dal Cannady's WTOC Facebook page.
