Savannah City Council approves sale of Johnny Harris

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

The City of Savannah has decided to move forward with the sale of Johnny Harris, despite a last ditch effort to save the building.

As we told you a couple weeks ago, the Metropolitan Planning Commission voted to approve a motion to rezone the area into a shopping center despite a push from a group who found that Johnny Harris was built on top of what was once a city road.

But with the city's approval Thursday, the building can be sold and torn down.

"We weren't against the development as it is drawn. We think a much better more family friendly, pedestrian friendly design could be drawn. We think this developer or another developer could do that,” said Stewart Dohrman, Parkside resident.

The developer says they're happy to meet with residents and discuss any concerns they have.
