Man & Woman of the Year kick-off celebration

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

What does it take to become Savannah's man and woman of the year?

A whole lot of hard work for a good cause.

The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society held its 2016 Man & Woman of the Year kickoff celebration Thursday night, introducing this year's candidates.

Over the next few months these community and business leaders will be raising funds to make a difference in the lives of people suffering from blood cancers.

"All of our candidates can fundraise in a number of different ways so they can hold events, they will raise money by raising awareness, asking people for donations and by spreading the word the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society which is to find cures for blood cancers,” said LLS Man and Woman of the Year Chair Emily Dickinson.

Their goal is to raise $400,000 in ten weeks. 

The winners will be announced at the Grand Finale Gala on May 13.

The candidates are:

  • Benjamin Couch Payne, Savannah Classical Academy
  • Joseph Shearouse, Jr, City of Savannah

  • Amelia Harper, TKL Research, Inc.
  • Kym Hogan, Yancey Bros, CAT
  • Shannan Hunt, Seabolt Brokers
  • Kelley Sulivan, BankSouth Mortgage
  • Natalie Moore-Winchell, Frank Moore & Company
