Savannah firefighters make donation to Metro sergeant fighting cancer

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Savannah firefighters aren't just fighting fires, they are also helping a Savannah-Chatham Metro Police officer fight cancer.

The Savannah Professional Firefighters Association made a donation to Metro Sergeant John Cain on Friday, to help with his medical expenses. They raised the money by selling grey and purple t-shirts.

You might remember, Sgt. Cain made international headlines after he grabbed the arm of an injured runner at the Rock n' Roll Marathon in Savannah last November and together they crossed the finish line.

A month later, he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
