SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Some Savannah High School alumni are concerned the school's name is changing, but the school district is saying that is not the case.

Parents and alumni met with school officials Tuesday evening to discuss changes coming to the school.

The district is proposing offering a college and career readiness academy as part of the school's curriculum.

Some were concerned that would mean doing away with the "Savannah High" name, but district officials say that will still be a part of the career academy's new name.

"We invite alumni and parents and students to participate and engage in the re-branding of the school, which will be Savannah High School and may include some other descriptor, such as 'Career Academy East' as one of the alumni suggested tonight,” said Aretha Rhone-Bush, SCCPSS.

Parents and alumni are welcome to submit suggestions to the principal and the school district. But school officials say what they really need are more volunteers, PTA members, and mentors to support the students at the school.
