Several people are moving items out of their home after a fire broke out in their apartment building on Friday afternoon.

It happened in the 600 building of the former Clover Village apartments off White Bluff Road in Savannah.

At this time, we don’t know the cause yet, but what we do know is that this entire apartment building has been evacuated. There are 8 apartments in the building, half sustained minor fire damage while the other half were damaged by the smoke.

Thankfully, there weren’t any injuries we are aware of, so that’s the good news.

The power has been shut off, so all the people who live here have been moving their things out this afternoon.

WTOC is told the Red Cross is assisting the displaced residents, and we spoke with one woman who has been relocated to another apartment complex down the road. She was asleep when the fire started.

“I was sleeping, and somebody knocked on my door – it was a loud bang – and I jumped up to see who it was. They were like, ‘Fire. Grab what you can.’ So I just started grabbing my safe, my cat, and anything I could see to grab,” said Brooks Tolbert.

Again, we do not know the cause of the fire at this point, but it did start around 12:30 this afternoon.

Some of the folks who live here weren’t home at the time, so the clean-up and move out process will likely continue into this evening.
