VIDALIA, GA (WTOC) -

Tiffany Edwards and April Mincey now share more than just being sisters.

They expected to deliver their babies a few weeks apart, starting next week. But that wasn’t the case late Wednesday night.

“I was putting bunk beds together when I thought I had to go to the bathroom. I thought this can't be my water breaking because I'm not due for another two weeks,” said Edwards.

Minutes earlier, Mincey had begun feeling contractions and was already at Meadows Regional Medical Center.

“My other sister sent me a text that Tiffany's water had broken. I wrote back, ‘I guess I'll see her when she gets here,’” said Mincey.

Through the night, they both got closer and closer.

“They admitted me. They admitted her. Neither one of us thought we'd be having babies the same day,” said Edwards.

Mincey gave birth to little Megan Brianna early Thursday morning, less than an hour after Edwards had little Ava.

The delivery doctor didn't know the connection until the last minute.

Then I made the connection and I knew they were spontaneous labor and this really doesn't happen that often,” said Dr. Anju Sinha.

The sisters say they've been close all their lives, even now as they live counties apart. But this makes them even closer, especially for Mincey having her first child.

“It was really special because it didn't feel like I was going through it alone,” said Mincey.

Both agree these two cousins will share a bond for the rest of their lives.
