SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Most people want to be as close to the St. Patrick's Day festivities as possible if they're visiting from out of town.

But the closer you are to the Historic District and Riverfront, the higher the price.

WTOC checked in with Visit Savannah, and the overall occupancy numbers likely won't be ready until Wednesday. But we have a pretty good idea of what's available and where.

It seems most hotels, even down on River Street and some on Bay Street, still I've rooms available.

"It's pacing with years past. We are hoping for a little bit of a push in the last few days. But I think with this weather, we'll see those rooms coming in,” said The Brice Hotel General Manager Mitch Linder.

Linder says he keeps in touch with several other hotel managers, who are saying the same thing.

"Most of us have a few rooms left, but that's typical. We will get those last-minute walk-ins, believe it or not, because people want to be here for the biggest parade in the Southeast. And I just want to come out here for the celebration. So, it's exciting,” said Linder.

Looking at a handful of room rates up and down Bay Street and on River Street, it's clear you'll be paying at least $300 a night for the prime locations, and as much as right around $500 a night, depending where you are and when.

These are the numbers I got searching for the best rate for a single room, with two adults from Thursday through Saturday.

Linder says the day St. Patrick's Day falls on this year creates a more lucrative opportunity for hotels all around the area.

"With this year being on a Thursday, we are getting a lot of Thursday, Friday, checkout Friday, and another group coming back in Friday, and Saturday. So it's almost like two weekends in four days,” said Linder.

Not all the hotels have occupancy though. The Westin just across the Savannah River tells WTOC they are full heading into this weekend.

But obviously the farther you are from the Historic District, the better rate you will find.
