STATESBORO, GA (WTOC) -

Major changes on the way for restaurants and clubs in Statesboro that serve alcohol.

Statesboro City Council passed the final revisions to their alcohol ordinances. Businesses that classify themselves as bars, instead of restaurants, must be off limits to anyone under 21.

The rules require training for bartenders and bouncers and gives the city more latitude to deny someone from getting a license and puts more scrutiny on places once they get a license.

"We now have an ordinance that is fair to the people who have licenses but also keeps our citizens and students safe,” said Statesboro Mayor Jan Moore.

The changes will go into effect July 1st.
