SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

A good-sized crowd in City Market, for a Thursday night.

But as we know, it’s no normal Thursday. It’s the first day of the Savannah St. Patrick’s Day Festival.

Wristbands for the festival zone are no longer for sale, but the bars appear to still be going strong, and they will be for several more hours.

So far police say it's been a big, but calm crowd for the most part.

I did see the end result of a fight, according to bystanders, and the victim is being tended to by EMS.

But overall, this is a night for friends and family to enjoy.

I caught up with a group of friends separated by several states that made this St. Patrick's Day festival a reunion of sorts.

"There's people everywhere, it's huge! I mean, it's the second biggest celebration, I think, in the country from what I have read. But we come down, have a good time, we drink, we hang out with our friends, we watch the parade,” said A.J. Beyrer.

As soon as the bars close down, the city's sanitation crews will be out to clean up the streets and sidewalks.

So please, give them room to work and use the designated containers to get rid of any trash.
