STATESBORO, GA (WTOC) -

A Statesboro native and NFL player came home to spread his inspirational message.

DeAngelo Tyson grew up in an orphanage but used his football success to go to college and earn a Super Bowl championship.

He spoke at Statesboro High about having goals and not getting discouraged, even though
he admitted to slipping into depression months ago when he was cut from the Baltimore Ravens..

But he's since signed with the Seattle Seahawks.

"My message to the children is just respect your elders because they're always going to remember who you are,” said Tyson.

Tyson's non-profit foundation hosts its second annual fundraiser Thursday and Friday. He's helping establish a transitional home for young men and assisting local foster families.
