US Rep. John Barrow (D-GA Dist. 12) is giving troops a hero's send off as they deploy overseas. Today the congressman shook hands and spoke to soldiers as they prepared to leave from Hunter Army Airfield for more training in California.
This is Congressman Barrow's first official tour of Hunter Army Airfield since being sworn into office.
Barrow was also updated on the base's current military operations, since it will soon be up for consideration for base realignment. But Barrow believes Hunter and Fort Stewart are safe from closure.
"I don't think there's any facility anywhere in the world that contributes more to the Defense Department's mission as Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield," he said.
After meeting the soldiers, Congressman Barrow drove to Fort Stewart to meet with troops and tour the facilities there.
