SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Savannah State University honoring the best of the best on Thursday.

The university recognizing over 2,000 students for academic excellence in the Fall 2015 through Spring 2016 school year.

These students earned a 3.0 GPA or higher. The top students of each college - sciences and technology, liberal arts and social sciences, business administration – will speak to their peers. Dr. Kimberly Holmes explains why it is important to recognize these outstanding students.

"We want them to know that having a great, solid foundation in education will open doors of opportunity that they can't even imagine just yet. So for the students that worked really hard, we want them to give them that early reward and recognition now, with the understanding that addition rewards are coming down the line for them,” said Dr. Kimberly Holmes, Savannah State University.

The annual Honors Convocation highlights the achievements of SSU students.
