An NFL player from Statesboro gathered friends and fellow players Thursday night for a good cause.

DeAngelo Tyson of the Seattle Seahawks hosted his second annual gala.

The dinner and auction raises money to help support foster families there as well as a transitional program for young men in the Broken Shackles group home.

Tyson grew up in an orphanage but used football to get a college degree and pro career.

He tells us he's grateful for the support he's seen.

"Just to see the support here last year and tonight. This committee can go as far as they want to,” said Tyson.

Our own Dal Cannady served as the emcee.

Friday, the Tyson Foundation hosts its second annual Golf Tournament. It's also at the Forest Heights Country Club.

Tyson and his friends are hoping to beat last year’s number and raise over $73,000 combined from Thursday and Friday.
