SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

The Memorial Health Board of Directors has voted to approve the hospital's partnership with Novant Health, a non-profit based out of North Carolina.

The Memorial University Medical Center Board of Directors tossed around like-minded partners several times when describing Novant Health.

That is exactly what hospital officials want to continue; the level of healthcare they're providing for the people of our region.

Novant Health was selected following a region-wide search, which selected about 10 potential candidates for a partnership.

We heard in the meeting that through a shared service agreement for the past three years, Memorial has actually gotten to work with Novant Health. Memorial’s President and CEO, Maggie Gill, explained that already existing partnership.

"We've done purchasing together. So supply purchasing, negotiating certain contracts together, and participating together in certain functions, like joint commission readiness. So, we've been able to engage with their resources and infrastructure, and they have been able to help us along the way, and it's been a great partnership.”

From here, the last hurdle before this partnership goes to the Attorney General’s office for review. The Chatham County Hospital Authority will work out any issues they may have.
