RINCON, GA (WTOC) - WTOC is learning that little Ella Bothwell of Rincon passed away Thursday surrounded by family.
Ella was the honored child at this year's St. Baldrick's Day in Savannah less than two weeks ago. She was too sick to attend.
WTOC's Mike Cihla hosted the event for more than a decade, and can tell you Ella wasn't at last year's event either, because she wasn't even diagnosed with brain cancer at that time.
In less than a year's time, cancer took this sweet child away from us.
Ella was a sweet, funny, energetic, artistic little 7-year-old girl from Rincon. Ella was brave.
Throughout the chemo therapy this innocent child, showed wonderful grace. In less than a year's time, the tumors took this beautiful little girl and transformed her look, but the cancer could not take away her spirit.
Ella was a child the community rallied around. Ella thought it would be so fun if stuffed animals fell from the sky. The community got together and made that happen for her and her family!
Enjoy! Her story touched so many not just in Effingham County but all around the world.
Ella was a wonderful child full of faith and humor. She loved her pets and her stuffed animals and loved to paint. Her artwork on display on cards and t-shirts.
She was the honored child at St. Baldrick's Day in Savannah this past year but was too sick to attend. But Team Ella was out in full support.
The physical pain is gone for Ella as heaven has gained an angel. Ella's death leaves a heartache no one on earth can heal, but her life and love leaves a memory that no one can steal.
Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and loved ones.
A celebration of Ella's life, starting with visitation at Savannah Christian Church's Effingham Campus on Saturday from 5-7 p.m.
Then a celebration service at Savannah Christian Church's Henderson Campus in Savannah on Sunday at 4:30 p.m.
