SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

A local art organization in Savannah wants you to re-think how we view our streets and neighborhoods.

Art Rise Savannah teamed up with the Savannah Development Renewal Authority to shut down a portion of Bull Street Friday. It was all for a demonstration called the "Better Block" project.

The street was filled with food trucks, local vendors, live music and art projects created by SCAD students.

The idea behind these events is to build community within neighborhoods and generate new ideas about how to use public space.

"So the idea is to temporarily, for about a day, shut down a street and then revitalize it with some novel concepts about what streets can do... and just shut it all down and wait for everybody to be like, 'Wait, that was really cool. Let's do that again.' So this is our first time doing it, and I'm really pleased,” said Art Rise Savannah Executive Director Clinton Edminster.

Friday's event also coincided with the 50th "First Friday Art March" that Art Rise Savannah hosts each month.
