SCMPD, local organizations hosting free conference for those with criminal history

The Savannah-Chatham Metro Police Department is partnering with several local organizations to host a free, helpful conference for those with a criminal history.

Representatives from End Gun Violence: Step Forward and the Savannah Impact Program will facilitate the second annual "When is the Debt Paid?" event.

It's this Saturday at Armstrong State University.

The goal is to help citizens returning from jail, or those with prior felonies, gain tools to help with their successful return to the community.

"The major premise is to encourage, to inspire, to educate, to inform. Many times they don't know what their rights are. They don't know what resources are available to them and so the conference is designed to help them on the road to successful reintegration,” said End Gun Violence: Step Forward Project Manager Maxine Bryant.

Individuals must register by calling 912.210.8037 by Thursday, April 7th.

The conference begins at 8 a.m. with continental breakfast and sign in. Lunch is also included.
