A Legal Food Frenzy was held Thursday in Savannah.

It's a food and fund drive among all lawyers in Georgia.

2016 marks the fifth year of the statewide competition that provides food assistance to families when they need it most.

The money and food raised goes towards local food banks.

The law firm or legal organization that raises the most is awarded the highly coveted "Attorney General's Cup.''

The goal for the entire food frenzy this year is to collect 1.3 million pounds of food.

"In Savannah, over 64 percent of our children during the summer go hungry. During the school year, the schools offer lunches, they offer breakfast, but most people don't realize that school is out. Kids are out for the summer. They think of that as a wonderful time for relaxation. But a lot of our kids don't have food,” said Chatham County District Attorney Meg Heap.

The contest runs through April 29. Each dollar contributed counts as four pounds of food.

Since 2012, the Legal Food Frenzy has raised the equivalent of 3.7 million pounds.
