SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Armstrong State University is painting the town maroon!

The third annual event celebrates the university's longstanding connection to the Savannah community, major economic impact and significant contribution to the local workforce.

Those that came out got the chance to play corn hole in the square, compete for prizes and enjoy a picnic lunch. The vice president of Advancement explains why it is being held downtown.

"For many folks they don't realize that Armstrong started downtown many, many decades ago, 80 years ago! And so we are sort of getting back to our roots, and at least now for the last three years, once a year, coming back downtown to celebrate our history but also celebrating our students,” said Bill Kelso, vice president of Advancement at Armstrong.

Armstrong's legacy and impact throughout the community, as well as its fundraising success, are being showcased at the event.
