Alee Temple's 4th annual Iron Butt Ride

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - They're off! Savannah to Louisiana and back in 24-hours.

Friday, 21 Alee Temple riders headed out for the fourth annual Iron Butt Ride!

Riders departed from Hooters on 1-95 at 7 p.m. and they're headed to New Orleans. It's a thousand mile ride.

One hundred percent of the money raised from the Iron Butt Ride goes to the Shriners Hospitals for Children in Greenville and Tampa.

"I think the best part is that we get a lot of people that would normally not participate that are motorcycle riders that come in and they raise a lot of money for the Shriners Hospital. I think they find that there's a lot of people out there that care about the Shriners Hospital and open their wallets and give quite generously," said Alee Iron Knights President Doug Hamsher.

Hamsher says the funds from this year's ride is specifically going towards buying kids a van to transport them to and from the hospitals.

They left with a little over $20,000. We'll let you know how much they raise along the way!
