TYBEE ISLAND, GA (WTOC) -

Tybee Island City Council approved the request put in by the Tybee Island Police Department to purchase new police radios.

The department requested more than $30,000 for new radios and a spare car charger.  Officers said they are needed to resolve radio problems that come up during special events - like Orange Crush.

Last year, there were issues with patrol officers not being able to use their radios because they were dead and could not be recharged until they got back to the station.
