Children thrive in a supportive, nurturing learning environment. They get that and more in Ruth Weeks' class. She likes to keep her fourth grade classes at Juliette Low Elementary School fun and get her students involved.
"There's always a moment when you see a little light in someone's eye," she said. "That you know you're making a difference."
That difference can be seen in all of her students. In fact, Kewaan Drayton, the student who nominated Weeks for the Top Teacher award, says she has made a big impact on him. "My mom told me to write it because every time I brought home a report card, I did good. Mrs. Weeks helped me get good grades."
Student Raquel Myers told us, "She's a nice person to me, she's always there when you need her. She's the special teacher I never had."
"I hope they've learned a lot about math, science, and reading, but I also hope they've learned a lot about working together and resolving problems in a way that is productive," said Weeks.
