SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department's Central Precinct investigators are searching for the man they believe stole an expensive camera from a church on March 6.
Officials say a deacon was taking pictures of members at a church located on the 500 block of Hamilton Court, where he left the camera unattended. When he returned, his $1,000 camera was missing.
Police say 26-year-old Ashton Gibbs, a paid musician at the church, was last seen near the camera and had also left the scene. Investigators learned the next day that Gibbs allegedly pawned the camera at a local pawn shop.
Gibbs is facing theft by taking and theft by conversion charges. He is described as a black male with a dark brown complexion, standing around 5'11" and weighing about 155 pounds.
Officials believe that Gibbs is currently in the Tatumville area on Adel Street, driving a red 4-door vehicle of an unknown make and model.
