SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Did you hear the Good News this week?
On Saturday, thousands of people jammed Downtown Savannah to take part in this year's Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure.
The event raised more than $200,000, but more importantly, it went a long way in raising awareness about breast cancer. The event also serves as an opportunity for our community to remember the victims of this disease and pay tribute to the survivors of it.
This week local volunteers helped out a neighbor by painting and restoring rotting boards on a house. The Housing Team helps families in Garden City beautify their homes on an at-need basis, but that work also makes for a more beautiful Garden City for everyone who lives there.
And finally, a big week for Memorial Health... 25 years in the making! They held a ground-breaking ceremony for its new, stand-alone children's hospital. The Dwaine and Cynthia Willett Children's Hospital will be in the old Rehab building. It will provide private emergency and operating rooms for children.
