GARDEN CITY, GA (WTOC) -

We're speaking to the Garden City mayor after a scheduled railroad closing goes wrong.

Garden City Mayor Don Bethune says CSX began work on Big Hill Road Monday, but then it continued Tuesday and no one from the city was notified.

And then the work went into a third day but this time, residents were not aware of the change.

CSX tells us notifications with tentative dates were made in advance, but timing can vary due to weather or other conditions.

"Yesterday afternoon, my phone lit up like a Christmas tree. When I got over there, there were three school buses sitting. There were many residents that could not access their house and it was just a very poor job of communication with the city,” said Mayor Bethune.

Mayor Bethune says he has meeting a meeting planned with CSX and another railroad company next week. He tells us he'll bring up the residents' concerns about noise and blockages.
