Savannah - A popular Southern celebrity chef and James Beard award winner has announced plans to open a Husk restaurant in Savannah.
WTOC has confirmed with the Neighborhood Dining Group that Chef Sean Brock and his business partner David Howard will open Husk Savannah in the Spring of 2017. Husk will open at 12 W. Oglethorpe Ave., a building that sat empty and gutted for years after a disastrous fire back in 2009.
Historic Savannah Foundation President Daniel Carey told WTOC the current owner undertook the difficult construction project, allowing it to be renovated for the contemporary restaurant.
Husk has two locations already, one in Nashville and the original in Charleston. Bon Apetit named the Charleston location "Best New Restaurant" in 2011. A third location will open this fall in Greenville, SC.
In a statement Chef Brock said: "I'm eagerly exploring the traditions, history, and flavors of Greenville and Savannah and look forward to working with local farmers and purveyors to fully immerse myself in these regions. To continue celebrating the diversity and uniqueness of the South with Husk Greenville and Savannah is a great pleasure and honor."
