A robbery at a Statesboro apartment complex has some worried about safety.
They're also wondering why this complex has seen more crime than others.
“We seem to be having trouble out there. Since the start of the year, we've had nine felonies reported out there,” said Cpt. James Winskey, Statesboro Police Department.
Those range from shots fired, entering autos, robberies and others. The crimes also have a strange thing in common.
“A lot of our victims, as well as our offenders, aren't on lease out there. They may be staying with friends, visiting friends, or just out there,” said Cpt. Winskey.
He says many of the crooks aren't college students, but are college age and blend in and prey on those who are. He cautions tenants to know their visitors before letting people in the gate or in their apartment. Guidelines some already follow.
“I'm on the first floor so I'm especially worried. Right by the door, even,” said one resident.
I talked to someone in the office at 111 South. They couldn't comment on this case, but said they're working with police in any way they can.
