Consider This!: Good News 4/28

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

There’s some very Good News to share this week.

Advanced Firefighter Christopher Dekle was named Savannah Fire & Emergency Services Firefighter of the Year, and Advanced Firefighter Christopher Berry was honored as Rookie Firefighter of the Year. Dekle joined in 2008 and he is currently assigned to Engine 11. Berry is a graduate of Savannah Fire's Recruit Class 2014, and he is assigned to Engine 7.

Three years of effort was recognized and rewarded when the Georgia Department of Education announced that the Jenkins High School Engineering Program is now STEM accredited. The designation makes Jenkins the first Georgia high school outside the metro Atlanta area to become STEM certified.

And finally, Statesboro was named a finalist in the America’s Best Community competition. The ‘Boro is one of eight communities vying for the $3 million top prize. If they win, they’ll use it to revitalize South Main Street from Georgia Southern to downtown Statesboro. A winner will be picked next year.
