City council approves extension of City Market mini-precinct lease

Savannah City Council approved an extension of a Savannah-Chatham Metro Police mini-precinct lease.

It's located on West Bryan Street, near City Market.

The city leases the space through the property owner for use by Metro at no cost. Thursday, both sides negotiated an extension providing a new, five-year term.

"That's a tough area. We have a lot of bars. We have a lot of people moving down there. Particularly of Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. Um... We need a lot of officers down there. We need them to have a place to work,” said District 4 Alderman Julian Miller.

Also brought up during Thursday's council meeting by Alderman Van Johnson, policing in West Chatham. Both Johnson and Miller agree there is a lot of area to cover there and council is hoping to look into reformatting precincts in the future.
