Metro police trying to identify auto theft suspect

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Authorities are attempting to identify a man suspected of stealing a vehicle at an apartment complex on the 600 block of West Bay Street in early April.

Officers responded to a reported stolen automobile around 8 a.m. on April 9th. The victim’s 2002 Lexus IS300 was last seen in the parking lot at approximately 5:30 a.m., and it was discovered missing two hours later.

A few hours later, officers responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle in the 200 block of West 38th Street, where they located the stolen vehicle. The Lexus was parked behind a residence with three doors open and damage to the front end.

Detectives say the car thief was caught on surveillance video in the area. The suspect is described as a black male, wearing a gray long-sleeved shirt, black pants and a red knit hat.

This investigation is ongoing.
