STATESBORO, GA (WTOC) - Statesboro High School students got the chance to see their city government up close - at school.
City council brought their first ever meeting to the high school's auditorium. They've taken meetings to Georgia Southern University's campus before. But city leaders hoped this session makes this more accessible to young people and the public.
"I don't think we do it enough. We sit in the ivory tower and want people to come see how we do business. That's not the way to get young people involved or the public involved," said Mayor Jan Moore.
During the meeting, the council voted to allow the new semi-pro soccer team - Tormenta FC - to offer beer to VIP ticket holders in a restricted area at home games.
They also recognized three employees who are each celebrating 20 years with the city.
Council will take one of their meetings to Georgia Southern this fall.
