GEORGIA (WTOC) -

Georgia State Representative-Elect Carl Gilliard was sworn in on Thursday.

Gilliard will represent District 162 for the remainder of the late Rep. Bob Bryant's term. Last week, he won the runoff election against Alicia Blakely with 73 percent of the vote.

"I feel very humbled that the community chose me, but now I have to deliver. So, my delivery will be a continuation of what I've stood for. Poverty reduction, quality of basic education and jobs for people,” said Gilliard.

Right now, Gilliard is asking voters to head to the polls on May 24th. He says that win will allow him to serve the full two-year term beginning in January 2017.
