SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

City of Savannah officials and residents joined forces for a ribbon cutting ceremony.

Brand new sidewalks were installed in neighborhoods surrounding Liberty Parkway. The nearly $80,000 project is all thanks to SPLOST money.

The sidewalks give residents a safe walking path to travel through busy intersections and it also improves access to local businesses.

"Before the sidewalks were installed, it was cumbersome to trying to walk this way because of the gravity and the uneven pavement and everything broken pavement. But now that they've installed them, it’s a much safer walk I think and I really feel comfortable with the elderly people,” said Shirley Quarterman, Liberty City resident.

The city says there are future sidewalk projects in mind for the other side of the parkway
