SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

There’s some very Good News to share this week!

Starting with the ongoing, very much deserved, tradition of honoring the greatest generation. Last weekend a ceremony was held to honor World War II veterans, for their service and their sacrifice.

Among those honored was Howard Young who was 17 years old when he volunteered to serve. Young was one of about a dozen veterans on hand for the ceremony hosted by the Concerned Veterans of America.

He was also among three presented with replicas of the medals they were awarded during World War II.

Jacqueline Cason was awarded a $150,000 United States Army ROTC scholarship this week. Cason, a senior at Jenkins High School, will use her scholarship to attend Auburn University next fall.

And finally, students a Hesse and Marsh Pointe Elementary schools are preparing for the Science Olympiad State Finals this weekend.

The competition tests their science knowledge and skills.

They have worked on science projects and a jeopardy-style quiz bowl similar to the one they will face in the finals, challenges like building straw towers that have taught them the value of working together.
