Groundbreaking for new performing arts center at Garrison School of Arts

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Construction of a new addition to Garrison School of Visual and Performing Arts is underway way in Savannah.

Officials from the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System broke ground on the project this morning. The new construction will deliver a brand new performing arts center that will seat almost 600 people.

It will include a state of the art sound control room, performance stage and lighting, classrooms, a piano lab and much more.

"First and foremost we will have an area where all of our students will be able to perform instead of using different sites throughout the community. We will also be able to add more frequent shows and presentations for our students,” said Garrison School Principal Jim Heater.

The new performing arts center was funded by E-SPLOST funds. They hope to have the project completed by summer of 2017.
