SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

The Lowcountry Down Syndrome Society held its special, 7th Annual Night of Champions on Thursday night.

Folks headed out to the Westin to celebrate differently-abled adults and the local businesses that employ them. According to the National Down Syndrome Congress, as many as 80 percent of adults with Down syndrome are unemployed.

The hope is that they can lessen this statistic by increasing the level understanding required to recognize the skills these individuals possess.

"We believe that everyone born into this world has a unique ability, a special gift. And differently-abled adults are no exception. They have something that they uniquely offer and if you have a business need and they have a skill to meet that need, it doesn't matter what other skills they may not have,” said Night of Champions Chairman Allyson Harvin.

Thursday's special guest: David DeSanctis! We introduced you to the lead actor of “Where Hope Grows” on Wednesday.
