SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Up for discussion and a vote Friday at Chatham County Commission, $770,000 that will go toward the design phase of a brand new Memorial Stadium.
$12 million in SPLOST funds are set aside for the project, and nearly $100,000 has been used to look further into the recommended site, which is where the current stadium sits.
But before the vote, Commissioner Pat Farrell brought up the notion that some think we need more recreational space and the old stadium should stay.
"When this came up, I was like well, I think that finding an alternate site to put this very fine structure...to locate it...if the proper site could be found, to net two stadiums," said District 4 Commissioner Patrick Farrell.
Commissioner Farrell wanted to table Friday's vote, but ultimately the commission voted in favor of putting the money toward the design of the new stadium.
